Size

The Soft Ivory Egle Top from Noumenon is comfortable yet feminine. This sheer, long-sleeved top is made from Ramie, an ancient cloth from the Himalayas that was traditionally used for the wrapping of mummies. It has a loose fit, wide neckline and sleeve detail that can be left hanging or tied in a bow. Dare to bare, or wear it over a camisole or bralette.

materials

Body: 100% Ramie
Trim: 55% Ramie, 45% Tencel

Noumenon strives to create garments that are responsible, ethically produced and cruelty-free, which means the label only works with vegan fabrics that do not involve the use of animal products or animal by-products.

Noumenon uses a range of fabrics in each collection, including:

GOTS-certified fabrics: Recognised as the world's leading processing standard for organic textiles, only textile products that contain a minimum of 70% organic fibres can become GOTS-certified. All chemical inputs, such as dyes, must also meet environmental criteria.

Better Cotton Initiative (BCI)-certified fabrics: The Better Cotton Initiative (BCI) covers environmental, social and economic sustainability.

A Noumenon garment is typically made 100% from one of the following fibres, rather than being blended, which assists in end-of-life recycling:

Linen: Clean, classic and luxurious, produced from the fibres of the flax plant.

Organic cotton: Produced without the use of toxic chemicals and with regard to the health of the environment.

Ramie: One of the world's oldest vegetable fibres, sourced from fibres from the nettle family, it has a silky lustre and beautiful drape.

Lyocell: An alternative to silk, lyocell is a cellulose made from wood pulp.

Modal: A semi-synthetic cellulose fibre made of wood pulp (typically from beech trees), modal has a silky feel and is environmentally friendly.

Cupro: A regenerated cellulose fibre derived from cotton linter (the ultrafine, silky fibers that stick to the seeds of the cotton plant after it’s been ginned), Cupro is similar to rayon, but breathes and regulates body temperature like cotton. A European relative of Tencel, Cupro is a hypoallergenic, antistatic fabric that is resistant to stretching out of shape at higher temperatures.

Typically producing its luxury garments from deadstock, Noumenon aims to #changethegame of fast fashion and overproduction. This means that each style/colour is limited, and therefore exclusive and unique.

Materials: Kowtow

Organic cotton is grown using methods and materials that have a low impact on the environment. It is grown without the use of toxic and persistent pesticides and synthetic fertilizers, and the use of genetically-engineered seed is prohibited.

Fairtrade certification

All Kowtow cotton is certified by Fairtrade Labelling Organisations International (FLO). Fairtrade empowers farmers to negotiate with buyers to secure better prices for their cotton. Every season, certified farmer groups receive a premium to be spent on community projects such as medical costs, irrigation schemes to conserve rainwater, books and clothes for school children, farmer education, training and upgrades.

Kowtow's cotton is organically farmed and free from genetically modified seeds to benefit the soil, cotton and farmers. Crops are rain-fed and hand-picked. Organic farming is achieved through companion planting, crop rotations and on-site green waste composting to eliminate the use of chemicals harmful to farmers and their families. Cotton is a sustainable, recyclable and biodegradable fiber.

Sustainable trims

Kowtow only uses sustainably sourced trims. The label's buttons are made in Italy from recycled hemp. Its denim tacks and sliders are nickel-free and made in a SA8000-certified factory in Germany. They are tested by OEKO-TEX for harmful substances and come under the Eco-Management and Audit Scheme (EMAS) and ISO 14000 environmental management standard.

GOTS-approved printing, dyeing & washing

Kowtow's prints and fabrics use Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) approved inks and dyes, which are free from chlorine bleach, toxic heavy metals, formaldehyde and aromatic solvents. The brand only uses GOTS-approved washes for its garments, from lightweight jersey to denim. GOTS ensures sustainable use and treatment of water used in these processes.
